I'm sorry, I should have been more specific -- I got the lme4a branch to compile (with no errors in the test) after reinstalling the Matrix library.

I just figured it out on my machine (OS X 10.6.4, R version 2.11.1). There was an error in the Matrix library -- once I re-installed that library, lme4a installed with no problems.

Either we get (ssh) access to a Mac (which has the tools to install the package from the sources and) which shows the test suite problem,

or Simon Urbanek, the R Core Mac guru, finds a problem with valgrind -- which he thought he would find about a month ago.

Ever since 2.11 came out, it seems that lme4 hasn't been compiling during the nightly builds on CRAN on the Mac platform, and thus Mac users can't install lme4. (Well you can install the sources... compile it yourself, and ignore the error that comes up when it runs the test suite)

Any ideas when this might get fixed?
