I didn't start implementing it, but I think we will have a problem with your suggestion. Duplicated names are not allowed for dataframes rows, thought they are allowed for matrix rows and columns. And there are several situations where a firm may appear more than once in a file.

This is a great idea! However, I don't like if functions have too many arguments. I think the natural think would be to use the row names of the data.frame for naming the efficiency estimates. Do you agree?

It would be interesting to allow the use of character strings to identify the firms. It could be a column of the data.frame that contains the data. It would make the output much more readable.
