smacof provides the following approaches of multidimensional scaling (MDS) based on stress minimization by means of majorization: Simple smacof on symmetric dissimilarity matrices, smacof for rectangular matrices (unfolding models), smacof with constraints on the configuration, three-way smacof for individual differences (including constraints for idioscal, indscal, and identity), and spherical smacof (primal and dual algorithm). Each of these approaches is implemented in a metric and nonmetric manner including primary, secondary, and tertiary approaches for tie handling. Package vignette is included.

New versions of homals and anacor are available on CRAN. Vignettes are included. A first smacof beta version for multidimensional scaling (MDS) is available on R-forge.

PsychoR multiple package

PsychoR is now provided as a multiple package project. So far it includes homals for Gifi-models and anacor for correspondence analysis. Both are already available on CRAN. In addition, a first beta version of smacof is checked in which will be completed soon.

Homals 0.9-3 is on R-forge and soon on CRAN:
- bugs for data with missing values and various active/sets combintations fixed
- checks for active/sets arguments added
- loadings plot added (2D and 3D)
- verbose argument added for printing out iteration results

This package implements the methods discussed in Gifi, Nonlinear Multivariate
Analysis, Wiley, 1990. In the Gifi terminology it covers homals, princals,
canals, morals, criminals, and overals. The R implementation fills several
gaps in Gifi, adding multiple ordinal, numerical, and polynomial data
transformations. Differences with previous CRAN version:

a. More R-like with S3 classes, namespace, print, plot, plot3d, summary, predict methods

b. (Much) better documented functions and data sets

c. Dynamic three-d plot using rgl

d. Static three-d plot using scatterplot3d

e. Predict method that counts "correct" classifications

f. Many bugs fixed

A paper describing the technique and implementation, with many examples,
